Over the past 65 years we have been lucky enough to meet and get to know some lovely people in the Bideford and North Devon area while caring for their eyes. We love seeing new faces at the practice and welcome new customers.

We are a small family run practice and we know the importance of traditional values. The practice opened over 65 years ago and Steve and Davina bought the business 13 years ago and have really put their own stamp on the practice, investing in all the latest equipment and modern optometry skills.
The range of products has also been greatly expanded and we carry the largest range of designer frames in North Devon. We consider continuity of eye care, customer satisfaction and after sales service to be essential features of our practice.

Steve Cockburn FADO MFDO
Steve is a fully qualified and registered Dispensing Optician who enjoys helping and advising patients to choose the perfect frame and lenses to suit their lifestyle and prescription. Steve’s speciality is helping patients with Dyslexia/ Meares Irlen Syndrome and helping people with photosensitive migraine. Steve is the only practitioner in the area specialising in this area of optics. He regularly attends Continuous Education training sessions to keep up with the latest trends and technological advances. Steve is a keen photographer, keyboard player, audiophile and fully qualified Radio Ham.
Davina Cockburn Bsc (Hons) MCOptom FBDO
Davina is a fully qualified Optometrist and also a qualified Dispensing Optician. Davina holds many post graduate qualifications in a wide range of clinical skills. Until very recently she was also an examiner for the British College of Optometrists but found she needed to spend more time in practice due to the volume of work. Davina like Steve is also a fully qualified Radio Ham and also loves walking her 2 poodles.
Becky, Optical Assistant
Becky is a highly experienced Optical Assistant who has been working at Hughes Opticians for over 10 years.
